A mesmerising painting of galloping deers, sprinting hares and other animals from Kashmir's Zabarwan forest range wraps itself around this paper mache table lamp stand.

Craft Time: 6-8 days

Design Story:

Made from layers of paper pulp, a technique refined over centuries and introduced to Kashmir by Persian artisans, the lamp’s vibrant green, brown, and yellow surface, adorned with slight 20K gold gilt work outlining some figures, mirrors the lush, untamed landscapes of the valley, illuminated by the soft glow of its light. This delicate gold gilt, gleaming like the first rays of dawn, adds a subtle opulence and timeless beauty.

At its heart, a mesmerizing tableau unfolds: graceful deer, antelopes, and hares leap and bound across the surface, painted in earthy greens, browns, and golds, their outlines in some cases highlighted by the shimmering gold gilt. These animals, symbols of freedom, agility, and the wild spirit of Kashmir’s highlands, have been rendered with the precision artistry.

The landscape around them bursts with life—verdant grasses, stylized trees, and green lily pads on shimmering ponds, depicted in rich hues that evoke Kashmir's verdant meadows and rivers.
