Masterwork Kashmiri Hand-Carved Walnut Wood Relief Wall Plate, 16-Inch diameter

This exceptional sixteen-inch wall plate represents a zenith in the esteemed tradition of Kashmiri woodcarving. Hewn from a single piece of premium walnut wood—celebrated for its immense durability, exceptionally close grain, and rich tonal variations—the piece is a masterclass in spatial harmony and textural contrast. The artisan has judiciously utilised the natural lustre of the material, allowing the smooth, unadorned expanses of the outer register to cleanly frame and elevate the profound complexity of the centrepiece.

The central medallion features an exceedingly dense, high-relief carving of intertwining botanical motifs, characteristic of the historic naqash (pattern-making) heritage of the Kashmir Valley. Undulating vines, deeply undercut leaves, and stylised floral elements emerge from the wood with startling dimensionality, creating a captivating interplay of chiaroscuro as ambient light washes across the textured surface. This central arboreal theatre is elegantly counterbalanced by a delicate, scalloped border of incised arabesques along the rim, which gently points inward, gracefully guiding the viewer's eye back to the intricate core.

Though diverging from our signature silk textiles, this objet d'art perfectly resonates with the Jos and Fine philosophy: championing the meticulous, time-honoured craftsmanship of Kashmir while presenting it for the contemporary connoisseur. It is not merely a decorative object, but a sculptural testament to generations of artisanal legacy, inviting both quiet visual contemplation and tactile appreciation.
