A set of 3 hand painted wall plates.
Design Story:
Where the morning mist kisses the fields of red poppies, the artisans at Jos and Fine drew inspiration for this striking hand-painted plate. Crafted using traditional papier-mâché hand painting technique, a craft perfected over centuries in the region, the plate’s soft green surface mirrors the lush meadows that stretch beneath the Himalayan peaks, a canvas alive with the vibrancy of nature.
At its heart, a cascade of bold red poppies rises like a song of remembrance and resilience, their crimson petals symbolizing the fleeting beauty and enduring spirit of Kashmir’s landscapes. Surrounding this central cluster, smaller poppy blooms are scattered across the plate, their delicate green leaves and stems echoing the wild, untamed flora that thrives along the valley’s rivers. These flowers, painted with painstaking care, pay tribute to the poppy fields that paint Kashmir’s hillsides each spring, a sight cherished by generations of locals and travelers alike.
The plate’s rich red border, accented with golden scrollwork, draws from the intricate patterns of Kashmiri craftsmanship, blending Persian influences with the region’s age-old artisanal techniques.
