Zaeldar Begum Shawl

Reference SZ-42

The classic aristocratic colour combination called the Sufiyana graces this shawl. This extremely hard-to-do and rare palette first came into being in the late 1800s owing to tastes of the Zaeldars (Kashmiri landlords) that commissioned the grandest and most intricate of pieces but wanted them to be as subtle as possible (not loud) for conservative religious reasons. Soon enough, the Sufiyana palette came to be associated with 'old-money' in Kashmir.
